AGN, COSON, others support uniform health insurance

Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), are among a number of organisations that have thrown their weight behind the Nigerian Entertainment Industry Health Insurance Convention.

In an Interview with The Entertainer last week, Seun Apara, the CEO of The Nigerian Entertainment Industry Health Insurance Convention expressed his feelings.“The response has been overwhelming. I am glad that across the industry, there is a general consensus that this is an idea whose time has come,”.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), Chief Tony Okoroji, described it as an ingenious and timely plan as many entertainers do not take seriously their health and retirement plans.

Re-echoing Okoroji, the General Manager of COSON, Chinedu Chukwuji applauded the plan and noted that artistes should place more importance on health instead of driving flashy cars.

The President of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima, who championed the same cause for AGN last year, noted that it is a good thing for the entire entertainment industry.

The Nigerian Entertainment Industry Health Insurance cover also extends to Kannywood, the Hausa film sector, which constitutes about 30 per cent of the Nigerian movie industry.

Other major stakeholders that have identified with the event include top Nigerian DJ, Jimmy Jatt, Efe Omorogbe, Obi Asika, Ali Baba and Cally Ikpe. Others are Ayo Animashaun, Chris Ubosi, Joke Silva, Edi Lawani, Kenny Ogungbe, Julius Agwu and Kelvin Luciano.

“The convention is a major feature for the maiden edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Industry Lecture Series (NEILS), and it’s in partnership with National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Medical Association. It is billed to hold on July 22, at the Grand Ball Room of Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos,” Apara added.
